Martin Cornelius Conroy

September 6, 1951 - July 17, 2010

Martin Cornelius Conroy, 58, of Ridgefield Rd., Wallingford, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 17, 2010. He was the beloved husband of Arline McVay Lacey Conroy.

He was born in Norwalk, September 6, 1951, a son of the late Thomas H. and P. Jane O’Marra Conroy and was a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a lifelong Norwalk resident until moving to Wallingford 8 years ago. He had been a Filter Plant Operator at First District Water Department of Norwalk until his retirement. He was a parishioner Holy Angels Church and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and Saint Mary’s Men’s Club in Meriden. Martin enjoyed Irish and Bluegrass music and was the leader of the Irish Mountain Band, playing the Banjo and Guitar. Every December he and his wife enjoyed entertaining children as Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. He liked classic Fords and most of all spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Arline, he is survived by his two daughters, Phyllis Jane Conroy and Cara Jean Conroy of Vermont; his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Suzanne C. Thompson and William R. Thompson Sr. of Middletown, and Kathleen M. and John R. Mayer of Garrettsville, OH; his brother and sister-in-law, Henry J. and Pamela Conroy of Shelton; and several nieces and nephews.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford on Friday, July 23, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home when the funeral cortege will proceed to Holy Angels Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. A service of interment will be directly at St. John Cemetery, 223 Richard’s Avenue, Norwalk, CT at 1 p.m. on Monday. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be given to the Ancient Order of Hibernians Building Fund, please make checks payable to: LAOH c/o Lisa Fornaciari, P.O. Box 751, Meriden, CT, 06451.
